Willpilot & The Acoustic Shadows role play with punk while daydreaming through Storyville.
Willpilot & The Acoustic Shadows role play with punk while daydreaming through Storyville.
A lost album and a deep dive on the history of New Orleans red light district, unexpectedly become companion singles.
Willpilot has a song archive. Suitcase and shoeboxes filled with old cassettes and every once in a while he fires one up. One particular tape contained an entire album over 20 years old. A quick one-minute track stood out. A groove punk banger with a provocative topic. A lover pleads with his muse to experience both pleasure and pain as a feeling of guilt persists. Asking the question… Is it wrong if “Something Isn’t Right?”
On the flipside…..
Storyville was the red-light district of New Orleans, from 1897 to 1917 and LuLu White was it’s queen. Famously memorialized by Louis Armstrong’s “Mahagony Stomp”, it’s hard to imagine a place like that in America now. But that’s what Willpilot has done. If allowed to exist today, how could you tell the story of a bordello queen. Fighting through societies stigma and moralist agenda to rise up as a successful strong woman before taken apart “One Piece At A Time.”
“Something Isn’t Right” and “One Piece At A Time” are currently out on Sound Recordings, distributed by TuneCore.
The Acoustic Shadows are David P Ohliger (Guitars,Vocals) Josh Arenberg (Drums) Michael Herscher (Bass) and Jared Wofford on Lead Electric Guitar.
Willpilot & The Acoustic Shadows are currently in the studio finalizing tracks for the new forthcoming album “Whiskey on Douglass” and performing regionally in support of each single release.

Willpilot & The Acoustic Shadows reminisce about the past and question the future of Rock n’ Roll with new releases.
A chance encounter with rock royalty and a call to realize the present spurs new material by Willpilot.
In 2008, David P. Ohliger, aka Willpilot. Had a chance encounter with Yoko Ono. They passed each other on an early morning New York City Street. Silent smiles and peace signs were exchanged. And that was that. A very personal moment that could have been otherwise forgotten among a sea of unique NYC memories. But 14 years later, the recollection reappeared and what stood out was the kindness, coolness and dignity shown. The echo of that moment returning as a melody and now memorialized as a musical souvenir with the release of Yoko, You Earned It. The First of two new singles with the Acoustic Shadows band.
Keeping with the rock royalty reflection, the second single, American Rock & Roll begs the old generational question. Is Rock & Roll dead? Can it survive another century? Or even the next decade? The baton is being passed to the next generation of noise makers. The movement is happening. Don't look into the future. The Present is Now!
These two releases represent the current vision of Ohliger’s musical path and continue the direction of the singer/songwriter's punk and soul infused style with modern jazz expressionism. Everything is game, all ideas are plausible. The only mantra here is "always play an honest note.”
The Acoustic Shadows are Josh Arenberg (Drums) Michael Herscher (Bass) and Jared Wofford on Lead Electric Guitar.
